The Challenge:
To create a proof-of concept for reverse auction site BuyersEdge within a four-month, compressed development cycle. Unlike eBay and other online auctioneers, both the challenge and the unique value proposition of BuyersEdge was a virtual market where the buyer was the one in control — driving down the price of product by forcing the sellers to compete against each other. The concept, a perfect market, represented a radically new paradigm of e-commerce.
The Tyrell Solution:
Because of its technological expertise, and its sterling track record of turning out quality applications quickly and efficiently, Tyrell Software was brought in to direct the technical implementation of BuyersEdge. Although the four-month deadline seemed overly aggressive, Tyrell assisted with technology selection, established the development and operations environment, and was part of the development team that built the application.
The Results:
A feature-rich, reverse auction site that provided an internal communication system for both buyers and sellers to negotiate the final price of purchase, BuyersEdge was soft-launched a month early, and was so bug-free that its final release, just 30 days later, helped close $10 million round of funding from CMGI.
