Shared Success: PowerSchool from Apple
Shared Success: PowerSchool from Apple
The Challenge:
In early 2002, using a new report-generation framework created for Apple's PowerSchool SIS V3, dozens of reports needed be implemented from specifications for the new Master Schedule Builder component. Also, a new real-time importer server was needed to automate data-transfer between legacy school systems and PowerSchool's School Information System.
The time schedule was tight, as their system had to be ready in time for the Chicago Public School System to deploy before the 2002-03 school year.
The Tyrell Solution:
Apple was well aware of Tyrell Software's ability from its ongoing contribution to the successful Modern Postcard project, so they were tapped to take over this crucial task. Tyrell quickly became fluent with PowerSchool's data model for both the existing system and the new Master Schedule Builder module. The PowerSchool development team collaborated with Tyrell engineers using Apple's custom bug-tracking software over their secure virtual private network (VPN), avoiding any impact to their internal quality control processes.
Tyrell designed and helped implement the real-time importer, and helped PowerSchool overcome internal network and system configuration issues that hampered their testing process. Development leads at PowerSchool were kept abreast of Tyrell's progress on a weekly basis in the form of a comprehensive status report, as well as minor updates delivered during regular conference calls.
The Results:
The reports were completed in time for the code-freeze and subsequent QA period. Tyrell worked with PowerSchool's engineers to solidify the release and make any changes requested during this period.
Additionally, Tyrell recently delivered some requested enhancements to the real-time importer server, to improve its ability to recover from service interruptions.
