Patrick Neeman: Orbitz
Patrick Neeman: Orbitz
The Goal
Orbitz had one goal in mind -- unseat Travelocity and Expedia as the leaders in the online travel space. The way Orbitz planned to do it was through lower prices, effective customer service and most importantly, a website that was easy to use and tailored to travellers that use the internet as an effective tool to plan their travel.
Pat provided the Information Architecture for three of the most important parts of achieving that goal -- My Stuff, Travel Watch and the Help tool.
The Result
The My Stuff section is a record of all the trips you have booked through Orbitz, and each trip is a self contained itinerary of the trip. This is especially useful for travellers in that all of the most important information fits on one page, taking in consideration of what a traveller might need when away from his or her computer.
Travel Watch is a tool that combines the immediate information about travel during the current day, including any weather delays, and information that is useful during anytime, including tips on where to go and what to do at over 40 major airports in the United States.
Each of the sections has helped Orbitz grow from zero revenue on day one to what is currently the third busiest travel site on the web. Additionally, the work done assisted in moving up the Orbitz launch date a month early.
